This set is one in a series of incredibly rare and popular limited edition watches produced by Fossil in conjuction with Hanna-Barbera. The series is called "The Pioneers of Television Cartoons", and features characters from some of the most popular and enduring cartoon series ever produced. This set is the Jonny Quest limited edition watch, and like the other timepiece sets in the series features a specialized watch case shaped like an old-fashioned wooden television hutch! The inner cardboard liner is designed like a television set with the watch dial situated in the center of the "screen". Premiering in 1964, the "Adventures of Jonny Quest" featured the adventures of Jonny, his father Dr. Benton Quest, the mystical Hadji, and "Race" Bannon (and don’t forget Bandit the dog!) Despite running only one season, the show was hugely popular and is now considered a cult classic.
The watch dial sports a three dimensional Jonny face along with the show’s logo, with the black and white animated spiral in the background. The three-dimensional effect is very enhanced with several "levels" including the spiraling coil, dial background, Johnny graphic, watch hands, and movie logo embossed on the underside of the crystal. The cardboard screen has a shot of Jonny running with Bandit, no doubt chasing the bad guys. This is one of only 2000 pieces manufactured and distributed world-wide in 1995, with LE # 1665 embossed on the caseback. The set is brand new and in mint condition in its original box with Fossil paperwork and fully functional watch.
